Movie Mad Review:
I was fortunate to receive Alpha Dog on HD-DVD from `the land of the free' the other day, and sat down extremely excited at what was coming.

There is so much that is good about this film that it is hard to know where to begin.

Based on a true story, this movie is outstanding, but at the same time, at its climax, will make you feel sick!

You can start with the characters. There is quite a range of socio-economic backgrounds converging here in comfortable laid back sleaziness, out of which comes the interaction of characters with a range of family values.

The main movie revolves around a drug dealer not getting paid by a client and in a bit of bad taste fun, abducts his younger brother as a temporary ransom.

Emile Hirsch & Justin Timberlake are absolutely outstanding as lead characters in this movie, but are completely out-classed by Ben Foster who plays the crazy `Jake Mazursky'.

The acting by this guy is taken to an all new level. There are visions here of `Edward Nortons History X' performance.

The performance by Anton Yelchin cannot be overlooked either, as the boy taken hostage, crazy `Jake's' brother.

There are the second and third generation sleazeballs played by Bruce Willis and Harry Dean Stanton, who cruise in these roles.
There are parents like the mother played by Sharon Stone who wants to raise happy healthy decent children.

We see the initial corruption of the innocent as well as the easy descent of the aimless. This is not just another teen crime movie or the umpteenth hostage flick.

This movie does lack direction and pace in the early stages but stick with it, for what becomes outstanding for performances and storyline.

If anyone can remember the sexy `Alex' from The O.C., who not only seduces Seth but Marissa as well. Then look no further as this hottie actually gets naked! Wow! Shame she dyes her hair at the end when this happens!

Please, please do not miss this movie! The story deserves to be told, `Timberlake' needs to be seen, and Ben Foster needs recognising as The greatest new talent in Hollywood.

Almost, almost has the impact of `Crash' but not quite.

The HD-DVD is superb both in soundtrack and picture quality, its a combo as well, which means you don't need a HD player to watch the DVD.

Worth Watching ?
If you miss this, you are a major loser! Its outstanding and only just misses a 5 star!

DVD Features
Cautionary Tale: The Making of Alpha Dog featurette

Worth Owning on DVD ?
Definately, without a doubt one of the best movies of the year! Can be watched again and again!
