Movie Mad Review:
Brick is a film noir who-dunnit set in an American High School, and involves a whole host of mysterious, unpredictable, and unsavoury characters. Mixed up right in the middle, is Brendan Frye. A heart-broken loner, determined to unravel the mystery of the dark and dangerous world which swallowed up the girl he loves, and culminated in her death.
Brendan (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) must explore all the angles and shake things up, in order to find the truth he is looking for.
What is the Brick? Who is Pin? Who killed Emily? Why? This provocative thriller will have your heart and head racing as we search for answers to these questions, amongst others.
The cast and the acting are outstanding, and the mix contains everything you would expect in a film of this kind: a love triangle, an underworld king pin, a seductress, and a whole host of other intimidating and gritty characters.
The fundamental plot of the film is actually vey simple, but the film noir style in which it is filmed makes it feel far more ellaborate than it is.
This makes the film very engaging, and certainly grabs your attention. Although i found the dialogue that little bit over pretentious in parts, which may also make it hard to follow at times. But this is a deliberate attempt to keep you guessing for longer and fits in very well with the style of the film, working in it's favour.
Worth Watching ?
A fantastic film noir detective story for those who like their movies with a little thought, although some may find it hard to follow.
